What is an “Activity”?
Think of a Bugle Activity as a personal, automated alert. An Activity includes the details of your plans (like "Walking the dog to the park"), the date and time by which you expect to check back in, and the emergency contacts you want to be notified in case you don’t check in on time.

What happens if I don’t check in to an Activity on time?
If you don’t check in on time, Bugle will automatically send alert messages to your selected emergency contacts by e-mail and SMS (text) message. Your contacts will be provided with your activity details, profile information, and instructions on what action they should take to ensure you are safe. See How It Works for more details.

Does Bugle coordinate rescues?
Bugle does not coordinate rescues. If you are overdue and an Activity alert is sent, it is up to your emergency contacts to verify your safety and, if necessary, to contact the authorities. See How It Works for more details.

What happens if I forget to check in, but I’m not actually in trouble?
As soon as you are overdue, Bugle will send alert messages to your emergency contacts. If you don’t need help, you should check in to Bugle as soon as possible. Checking in late will send additional messages to your contacts letting them know that you are safe and that you do not require assistance.

Do I need to carry my phone with me for Bugle to work?
You only need your phone to set up an Activity before you leave, and to check in afterward. Bugle's automated alerts are managed on our servers, not on your phone, so the service doesn't require your phone to be with you (or even powered on) to send alert messages.

What happens if I can’t get cell reception?
You only need an Internet connection to create and edit your Activities, and later to check in to Bugle after your return. If you can’t get cell reception to check in to an Activity on time, your emergency contacts will be alerted that you are overdue.

Is Bugle private?
As long as you check in on time, none of your activity or profile information will be distributed. If you are overdue and an alert is sent, your information will be shared with the emergency contacts you selected when you created your Activity. See our privacy policy for more details.

Does Bugle track my location with GPS?
The current version of Bugle does not include GPS functionality.

Can I change an Activity after it has been activated?
It’s easy to edit an Activity at any time. Just tap on the Activity and press ‘Edit’ to change its details, contacts, or check-in time.

Why do I need to add contacts to Bugle when they’re already on my phone?
Bugle stores contacts separately from your iPhone’s address book. Most people use the same two or three emergency contacts over and over, so it is easier and faster to create and edit your Activities if you don’t have to search through your entire address book every time.
